Are you a regular hiker who's been looking to increase stamina to take on longer hikes or backpacking trips? Have you gone on a trip with us and want to level up your strength and endurance to tackle hard hikes and trips on your own? Strength training is an amazing way to increase confidence as a hiker and backpacker, prevent injuries while out on the trail, and help you achieve harder adventures!

We've partnered with our pals at Rooted Yoga & Fitness to design an 8-week strength & hiking program to get you ready to take on your adventure dreams this year! Together with a cohort of fellow nature lovers, you'll participate in a weekly in-person strength class full of exercises designed specifically to build strength while hiking and backpacking. This program is beginner friendly, so even if this is your first time doing strength training or lifting weights, you'll be able to take part in the workouts! Over the course of the program, there will also be scheduled group hikes to get us outside and moving our bodies, putting our new muscles and skills to work for our outdoor pleasure! 

Included in this program is:

  • 8 weeks of in-person, instructor-led strength classes at Rooted Yoga & Fitness. Classes will take place from 5:30-6:20 p.m. on Tuesday evenings, starting March 28 and ending May 14.

  • 3 optional but encouraged group hikes at Brown's Woods in West Des Moines, happening on Thursday evenings (April 11, April 25 and May 16)

  • Custom Rooted + Wander Women swag

  • Plus, you'll be surrounded by a supportive group of new friends that will help keep you accountable and celebrate your gains!

We're excited to offer this program with Rooted because we know how supportive, inclusive and fun their strength classes are. If you've ever felt uncomfortable in a gym setting, held back by lack of knowledge or know-how, or frustrated at working out solo, Rooted is an amazing place to begin or re-up your workout goals because of their focus on community, eliminating diet culture and supporting you no matter where you are on your strength or fitness journey. We can't wait for this program!
