Learn to Bird: Birding Basics for Beginners

  • Elevator Coworking Space 204 12th Street Des Moines, IA, 50309 United States (map)

$25

Curious about birding but not sure where to start? This beginner-friendly intro class is your invitation into the world of birds! Held just before spring migration—when millions of birds begin moving through the Midwest—this session will give you the confidence and foundational skills to start your birding adventure.

Together, we’ll demystify birding in a relaxed environment. Taught by two birding enthusiasts in the Wander Women community, this is a great introductory event that will prepare you for more active, outdoor birding events later this season (coming soon!).

You’ll gain practical tools, helpful resources, and a new way of seeing the natural world around you.

We’ll cover:

  • How to begin a birding practice (even in your own backyard)

  • Recommended birding resources (apps, field guides, local groups)

  • Tools you need—and how to use them effectively

  • Basic characteristics for identifying common local birds

  • How to continue building your skills during spring migration

No experience necessary—this course is built for beginners and those looking for a little refresh on their birding abilities.

Registration is limited to 20 folks.
