8-Week Dumbbell Strength Program for Hikers & Backpackers
Want to feel confident outdoors but don’t know where to start? One of the things we hear from Wanderers all the time is an uneasiness around being able to accomplish long hikes — or multi-day hikes — where they’re carrying a lot of weight or a backpacking pack. And we get it! Doing hard things can be intimidating, and knowing how to train your body to be outdoor ready can be confusing and full of half-baked attempts. So to help, we worked with our friends at Rooted Yoga and Fitness to develop a resource aimed at building strength and endurance for hikers and backpackers!
Included in this guide are:
8 weeks worth of detailed dumbbell and bodyweight strength training exercises specifically designed to target muscles that help you become a stronger, safer hiker and backpacker
Clear instruction on how to do the workouts, including rest periods and reps
A glossary of workout and exercise terms that break down complicated and intimidating fitness language
Simple information about what weight hikers and backpackers should work toward in their strength training
We (Jenn and Kerri) have both been members at Rooted for a long time, and love how inclusive, safe and community-focused the studio is, in large part thanks to the intentional direction of Hannah, Rooted’s owner. Rooted’s philosophy is that all bodies deserve movement that makes us feel confident, empowered, entertained and happy. We hope that this workout plan helps you get closer to that and all your outdoor goals!
