Do you know about urban wetland tucked behind 120th and Maple in the heart of Omaha? With dozens of species of birds, mammals, and plants, Heron Haven features one of the last oxbow wetlands of Big Papio Creek. We’ll take a guided tour through the sanctuary, about a 1-mile, mostly flat route on boardwalk and dirt trail. Expect to learn about the ecology of the wetland and the significance of environmental conservation in our city. And bring your binoculars for wetland wildlife spotting! After the walk, we’ll hang in the beautiful on-site butterfly garden, talk through the hiking 10 essentials and enjoy snacks and drinks together!
