  • Yellow Banks Park 6801 Southeast 32nd Avenue Pleasant Hill, IA, 50327 United States (map)

$65

Join Wander Women, Red Dragon Herbs and Tea, and Pocket Prairies of Des Moines for an unforgettable evening immersed in the prairie! We will stroll through the woodlands and prairie of Yellow Banks Park, learning about the different prairie plants we come across. We’ll learn how to identify them, the medical and ecological benefits each plant may have, and how to bring plants of the prairie into your own yard! After our evening hike, we will gather and create our own prairie-inspired tea blends with Mary of Red Dragon Herbs and Teas. We’ll sip hot herbal teas and munch on snacks and watch the sunset over the tall grass together. You'll leave bursting with prairie plant and ecosystem knowledge, and some tools to begin your own pocket prairie. Each participant will also head home with their freshly-blended herbal tea, and a native prairie plug for your own garden!

About Pocket Prairies of Des Moines:
Kelly Jacobs has a background in science education, earned her Masters degree in biology in 2017, and worked as a field biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The monarchs, bumble bees, and plants of the prairie motivated Kelly to advocate for the disappearing tallgrass prairie and oak savanna ecosystems by starting a small business that focuses on gardening with native plants. By growing local Iowa native flowers, sedges, and grasses, Kelly’s mission is to make native plants more accessible and affordable to home gardeners with the belief that native plantings, no matter the size, are beneficial to people and local wildlife.

About Red Dragon Tea and Herbs:
A woman-owned, family-run, Iowa based loose leaf tea company that sources and creates artisan tea blends. Our blends are crafted in small batches using only the finest teas, herbs, spices, fruits and flowers. Try any of our unique  loose leaf blends for an amazing tea drinking experience.
