If you’ve ever been curious about the canopy around you, or wanted to learn more about the native trees of Iowa and the Midwest, we’ve got the event for you!
Join us for an urban hike through forest-y Beaverdale as you learn the basics of how to identify any tree you encounter! We’re partnering with Trees Forever, one of our favorite nature loving non-profits, to host a super educational and hands on hike that’ll inspire you to look more closely at the trees in your neighborhood and beyond. On this hike, we’ll:
Learn the basics of tree identification, including how to determine species and special tree characteristics
Learn about trees you’ll encounter in Iowa and the Midwest, in your neighborhood and out on the trail
Put your new skills to the test with an interactive identifying activity
Talk about the best resources for learning more about trees
Learn about the urban canopy in Des Moines and how you can help grow our beautiful tree population!
This hike will be led by Wander Women co-owner Kerri, who’s a self-described tree enthusiast and former urban forestry professional. Trees Forever will join the hike to talk about their tree planting programs throughout the city and how new tree lovers can get involved with greening Des Moines! Plus, every participant will receive a booklet on native trees of Iowa that you can take with you on future adventures!
Registration includes a $5 donation to Trees Forever to support their work in the Des Moines metro. If you'd like to make additional donations to Trees Forever, you can add the donation option before checkout! Registration is limited to 20 folks.
