Come learn how to tap a maple tree with us! Ever wondered about that sweet, sticky syrup on your pancakes and the process of how it goes from tree-to-bottle? Join us for a Sunday morning urban hike with maple tapper Ryan Francois of The Woodland Realm to find the perfect maple tree to tap.
On this hike, we’ll demonstrate the basics of tapping and tap a local tree — in-city neighborhoods are where a majority of maples can be found, so this hike will be in a local Des Moines neighborhood! We’ll chat about the ethics of maple harvesting, the boil-down process, how to ID maple trees, and so much more! Participants will go home with a spile of their own and the knowledge to try tapping at home!
Registration is limited to 20 folks.
