RESCHEDULED: Rhubarb at Red Feather Pike w/ Pie Bird Pies

  • Red Feather Prairie 3700 Northwest 90th Avenue Polk City, IA, 50226 United States (map)

$45

What do you get when you combine the two best things in the world, pies and hikes? Pikes! Join Wander Women and Pie Bird Pies on the tastiest collaboration nature’s ever seen as we wander through our favorite parks in Central Iowa and enjoy Des Moines’ best pies! Seriously, if you haven’t tried Pie Bird Pies yet, you’re in for a life-changing treat.

For this pike, we will be hiking at Red Feather Prairie, basking in the prairie as it awakens from its winter dormancies. We’ll stop to chat about the emerging blooms, the wildlife and insects we may encounter, and plenty of other nerdy nature facts as we hike along the prairie. After our hike, we will gather for pie and lemonade and watch the sun dip low on the horizon.

About the pie, from Kristen at Pie Bird Pies: Choose between two delicious rhubarb pies: strawberry rhubarb or bluebarb. You just can’t beat classic strawberry rhubarb pie. And as perpetual blueberry pie lovers, we are obsessed with bluebarb: blueberry and rhubarb. It's jammy and sweet and tart — all the things you could want in a pie. These seasonal pies feature local rhubarb from Dogpatch Urban Gardens. Each slice will be served with a scoop of vanilla bean mascarpone whipped cream.

About the lemonade: This lemonade is the real deal: freshly-squeezed lemons, cane sugar, and plenty of ice, for a tart and sweet refreshment. For this Pike, we’re making a fan favorite: mixed berry lavender — raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries with lavender from our friends at AllSpice.
