Another installment in our artist series, we are swooning at the chance to collaborate with one of our favorite Iowa-based artists! Just in time for fall's peak beauty, join us for this workshop where you'll learn the basics of painting while enjoying the weather! Participants will explore Hartman Reserve Nature area in Cedar Falls while capturing the beauty of the season in a dynamic way: through plein air painting (or outdoor painting). In this workshop, participants are encouraged to practice the art of seeing and studying their surroundings both near and far. We will learn basic drawing practices as well as color theory and how to translate your observations to the page via watercolor or gouche paints. Take a moment to unwind and mindfully study the beauty of our environment in this beginner level class!
Participants will need to provide their own paints for this class. Sketchbooks are included in the price of registration. A suggested budget-friendly supply list will be sent to folks who sign up so you can be prepared!

About your instructor
Caylin Jayde is an artist based in Cedar Falls, IA. Caylin’s work explores environmental concerns, human and nature relationships, and the balance of her local ecosystem. She has worked with biologists, naturalists, and enthusiasts to gain a better understanding of the species that inhabit her surroundings. Through the visual language of painting and illustration, Caylin portrays the beauty of species that are less common, misunderstood, threatened, and endangered.
