Join us for a moonlit hike to celebrate unconventional Full Blue Moon! This full moon is a special one because while it's the only full moon in August, it's still considered a Blue Moon because of a rare astronomical rule. From the Arizona Republic:
"Instead, the August full moon will be a seasonal blue moon, which occurs when there are four full moons in a single astronomical season, instead of the usual three.
When this happens, the third full moon of the four is designated as a blue moon. This type of blue moon is a rare occurrence. The last seasonal blue moon was in August 2021, and the next one won't occur until May 2027."
On the hike, we'll traverse the paved trail around Easter Lake on Des Moines's south side — the perfect reflection tool to see the moon fully! WW guide Paige will lead hikers on an interpretive nature hike while we experience the last summer full moon in all its glory! Then we'll enjoy some special Wander Women tea to cap our night!
Registration is limited to 25 folks.
Adventure Rating: Beginner
Each Wander Women event has an Adventure Rating attached (Beginner, Intermediate or Challenging) to give Wanderers a better idea of the activity level and physical requirements of the event. This Bite-Sized Adventure is rated at Beginner because our hike will take place mostly on a paved trail.
