There’s no better place to be in the fall than everyone’s favorite Scandinavian town, Decorah! Join us in northeast Iowa to see the leaves change and enjoy every wild thing this town has to offer!
Known for its Scandinavian heritage and eccentric artisan culture, Decorah is everyone’s favorite small town for a reason. Many artists call the college town home, and food and some of the state’s best breweries make the area a traveler’s dream. Set on the backdrop of the beautiful limestone bluffs of northeast Iowa, outdoor lovers flock to the town for paddling, hiking, biking and more. Nature love is alive and well up north, friends!
On this trip, we’ll immerse ourselves in Decorah’s highlights, including an e-bike ride on the famous Trout Run Trail, hiking at Dunning’s Springs Park, a happy hour at one of the fantastic breweries, and a beautiful night at Luna Valley Farm, our favorite place to grab a delicious bite. We’ll stay right downtown in the center of it all, just minutes from all of the amazing shops that call Decorah home. If you’ve ever wanted to get a glimpse of Iowa’s best small community, this is the way to do it!
Adventure Rating: Beginner
This trip is a great accessible activity level for most folks. The hikes will be leisurely, and the bike ride will be 11 miles with e-assistance. Previous bike riding experience is recommended.
ACTIVITIES
Hike with us at Dunning’s Springs Park, right in the heart of town. This gorgeous area has crystal clear water, the town’s best waterfall, and miles of hiking trails through the forest.
Strap on your helmets and hit the trail: The Trout Run Trail is a favorite in the state for its sweeping views and breathtaking hills. But don’t worry, we’ll be on e-bikes, so the cruising will be easy! The trail makes a loop around the entire town, including through some of the town’s natural areas and along a great trout stream. It’s a can’t miss ride!
Sip with us as we try some of the area’s best beer! We’ll have a happy hour at a local brewery, known for their stouts, porters and ambers—perfect for fall!
Enjoy a beautiful farm to table dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the state—Luna Valley Farm. Luna Valley has been serving up woodfired pizzas in their gorgeous farm setting for years, and it’s always a treat for wanderers.
Explore downtown Decorah and all its many shops! You’ll find some amazing artisan creations and a lot of Scandinavian souvenirs!
ACCOMMODATIONS & LOCATION
We’ll be staying in a private home in downtown Decorah. The house has multiple bathrooms and multiple sleeping options (see below). The house is within walking distance to many downtown shops and attractions!
