Fall on the prairie means it’s time for seed harvesting, and we’re going to celebrate under the Harvest Moon! Plus, it’s National Public Lands Day! One part volunteer activity, one part celebration, our Sunset Seed Harvest is an awesome opportunity to learn about Iowa’s prairie ecosystem while helping to build more prairie in Polk County!
We’ll wander the evening prairie collecting seed from specific prairie plants—you’ll learn to identify prairie species while gathering. All prairie seed collected will be used by Polk County Conservation on public lands to expand the prairie ecosystem in Central Iowa.
After we harvest, we’ll come together to celebrate a job well done with an evening bonfire and delicious soup dinner, prepared by guides!
Participants should come prepared to walk through tall grasses and on uneven terrain. Included in registration is all harvesting supplies, harvesting instruction from WW guides, and dinner.
Registration is limited to 20 folks.
