Iowa’s County Park system is truly special, and unique to our state: some of the most beautiful and protection-worthy parts of our state live in county parks…and we want you to meet them!
In this new hiking series, we invite you to discover one of the lesser-known county parks in Polk County: Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt. This park is made up of many parcels that comprise over 10,000 acres of protected prairie and woodlands, making it one of the largest areas of protected recreation land in the whole state. Chichaqua is also home to many special (and even some endangered) prairie species.
During this hike, we’ll immerse ourselves in the fall prairie and learn about the history of this park and the ongoing work being done to protect and preserve it. This will be a gentle, flat hike!
Registration is limited to 15 folks.
