A perfect bonding experience and a great chance to experience the great outdoors together, our Sprouts trips are a perfect balance of education, relaxation and just plain fun. In our 12-14 trips, we provide the opportunity for middle/high school kids and their caregiver to learn outdoor skills and challenge themselves in nature. 

On this trip, we’ll explore all the Okoboji area has to offer — swimming at Gull Point State Park, group paddleboarding on West Spirit Lake, touring the Dickinson County Nature Center and hiking state park trails. This trip will be jam-packed at Iowa’s most pristine natural lake!

Price includes registration for one child and one adult. Aunts and nieces, grandmothers and grandchildren, and other adult-child relationships are welcome! If you choose the gear rental package, it includes: 1 tent and 2 of all other gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camp chair, meal kit, etc.)

  • Camping Details: Tent campground space with access to pit toilet. Modern bathroom facilities (flush toilets and showers) also available.

  • Skills learned on this trip: Fire building and starting, hiking preparation & safety, camping preparation & safety, Leave No Trace, basic camp cooking, setting up and taking down tent, paddleboarding

Gull Point is one of several state areas that make up the Iowa Great Lakes Region. The lakes area of northwest Iowa offers a tremendous array of outdoor recreational opportunities, year-round. The unique settings of beautiful clear Lakes East and Big Spirit Lake and other water bodies truly provide wonderful opportunities for outdoor recreation. There are several area beaches and boat ramps to choose from to access the lakes. From canoes to sailboats to ski rigs, pleasure boating is one of the most popular activities on the lakes.
