If you like a little taste of everything outdoors, this is the trip for you! Join us as we explore one of Wisconsin’s premier parks, Devil’s Lake State Park, during this long-weekend adventure. We’ll spend the first day hiking the many beautiful trails of the park, including part of the Ice Age Trail, a backpacking trail running 1200 miles across the state. The hiking at Devil’s Lake rewards you with breathtaking vistas of the crystal clear lake and surrounding mountains and valleys — some of Wisconsin’s best scenery! Then, we’ll spend a day on the lake, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing its beautiful waters. Although this is a busy park, its spread out for maximum adventure and plenty of wild experiences!

Trip Details

  • Adventure Rating: Intermediate. This trip is as hard as you want to make it. Our scheduled itinerary includes trails that range from moderate to hard and see about a 1200ft elevation gain. Some of the trails go along narrow and exposed rock ledges. You can expect to hike 6-8 miles throughout the weekend.

  • Main activities: Hiking, paddling

  • Camping Details: Primitive camping in a beautifully shaded campground with access to flush toilets and showers.

  • Skills learned on this trip: Fire building and starting, hiking preparation & safety, camping preparation & safety, Leave No Trace, basic camp cooking, setting up and taking down tent

Note: Canoe, kayak and/or SUP rental is not included in the trip fee. Participants wishing to do water activities will rent their own watercraft.

Devil’s Lake State Park is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin, and is Wisconsin’s most popular state park with about 3 million visitors per year. The over 10,000-acre park anchors more than 27,000 acres of parkland and natural areas open to public recreation in Sauk County. Historically Devil’s Lake or “De Wakacak”, which means Spirit Lake, sits on ancestral Ho-Chunk land and contains ancient effigy mounds that are part of their cultural heritage. A recreation pass is required for every vehicle in Wisconsin state parks, and will be an additional personal fee on top of the trip fee. Additionally, participants will be responsible for renting their own watercraft during the trip.
